Natural Amethyst is a violet to deep purple quartz semi-precious gemstone. Its radiant colorway is caused by its iron content and its background radiation. Amethyst’s popularity can be traced back to at least ancient Egypt, and until new deposits were discovered in Brazil in the 19th century, it was more expensive than emeralds & rubies!
